Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Cover Display to Feature Support for Optimised Google Apps: Report

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5 next month at the company’s next Galaxy Unpacked event. The smaller foldable clamshell version is expected to offer a notable upgrade over the Galaxy Z Flip 4 – a much larger display. Unlike its predecessor’s 1.9-inch external display, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is said to have a 3.4-inch external display. This display is said to offer support for both Google apps as well as Samsung’s own apps.

According to a SamMobile report citing unnamed sources, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will display an optimized version of Google apps on the smartphone’s external display. The South Korean conglomerate is said to have worked with Google to allow apps like YouTube, Google Maps, and the Messages app to run on external displays. Users can see directions, read and reply to messages, or even watch videos on the smaller external screen — without opening the phone.

Earlier this month, Samsung confirmed that the next Galaxy Unpacked event will be held in Seoul, South Korea and scheduled for the last week of July. The company usually holds Unpacked events in Europe or United States — in cities like New York, London, Berlin, and Barcelona. The second Galaxy Unpacked event will be held a month ahead of the previously scheduled schedule.

According to an earlier report, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 could be priced at the same price as its predecessor in the US. Readers may recall that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 was launched in the US last year for $999 (about Rs 82,400). There is no word from Samsung about the price and availability of the smartphone.

Last month, celebrity Steve Hemmerstoffer (Twitter: @OnLeaks) leaked images of the company’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 smartphone showing a foldable phone with a much larger external display, pictured item. A 3.4-inch external display has been revealed by OnLeaks, hinting that Samsung’s foldable phone will also have a larger external display than the recently launched Oppo Find N2 Flip. However, it is slightly smaller than the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, which has a 3.6-inch secondary display.

The newly launched Oppo Find N2 Flip is the company’s first foldable to launch in India. But does it have what it takes to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4?
